ROLE / 02 — EDITOR

Editor.

You enforce structure, neutrality, and publication quality. Editors control what gets published — judgment, consistency, and the ability to guide writers without doing their work for them.

Responsibilities

What editors do.

Review, feedback, decision-making — editors control final publish decisions.

Review & feedback

  • Read incoming drafts and check structure, clarity, sourcing, and attribution.
  • Give inline comments that are specific, constructive, and actionable.
  • Identify weak sourcing, bias, or unclear claims before publication.
  • Balance encouraging writers with maintaining high standards.

Decision-making

  • Approve or reject articles for publication. Editors control final decisions.
  • Request additional reporting or revisions when quality is not publishable.
  • Handle sensitive topics with care and consult leadership when needed.
  • Maintain quality across all coverage, including general reporting and sports content.

Coordination & standards

  • Coordinate with writers on deadlines and revision expectations.
  • Enforce Mawqif’s style guide and editorial values consistently.
  • Track progress on drafts and follow up on stalled work.
  • Help plan coverage and maintain a balanced mix of topics.

What you gain

  • Real editorial experience: review, feedback, decision-making, and publication control.
  • Practice in judgment, fairness, and enforcing standards under pressure.
  • A credible portfolio for university applications that shows leadership and responsibility.
  • Experience managing workflows, deadlines, and writer relationships.
